Me? Cloth diaper?

Today I heard that smallbundles.com is going out of business, so everything is 40% off.  I figured this could be a good way to start cloth diapering.  I should first tell you that we tried gDiapers a couple months ago.  We like them, but the inserts are more money than disposables!  So, we stopped using them.  With this sale, hopefully we can get back into it.  Here's what I got:

• Happy Heiny's Girl Starter Pack (includes 3 diapers)
• 1 Happy Heiny's Diaper Cover
• 2 Fuzzi Bunz
• 2 Rump-a-rooz
• 2 packs of Happy Heiny's oval inserts

The total came to about $140.  Hopefully we like, and use, all of these!  We also have two gDiapers.  I'm not expecting us to totally ditch disposables--I just want to help cut the cost of buying diapers.  Do you think this is a good start?  Any others I should get or look out for?

I went to Once Upon a Child last week to see if they had a nice excersaucer (they didn't), and I also needed to get some more outfits in the 3-6 month range.  The first thing I did when examining the outfits was immediately look at the butt region. Too see if they had poop stains.  From poopsplosions.  And none of them did!  I was shocked.  And then it hit me--we could never donate or sell C's clothes because every.single.outfit has a poop stain.  We can't get around it.  So, I go home, show J C's new outfits, and the first thing he said?  "We could never donate or sell C's clothes!"  Haha.  Oh well.  At least the fronts of her outfits are cute...

**Edit (two hours after original post): Did I say the front of her outfits are still clean and cute?  I spoke too soon.  C had a big poop mess at about 1 p.m., so I thought I was safe to put her in a brand spankin' super cute outfit.  About 15 minutes later, she had the poops of all poops.  Not to be gross, but it went everywhere, and all over the front of this outfit.  I'm so sad and frustrated!  I'm going to look into cloth diapering, specifically gDiapers.  The upfront cost is a lot, but if it stops these daily occurrences, then so be it!

You know you are tired when...

I washed a dirty disposable diaper last night.  Trying to do laundry while completely exhausted doesn’t really work apparently.

And I guess changing diapers in the middle of the night doesn’t work either because J put that diaper on the floor after he changed C.  The diaper genie didn’t have a refill in it, so the floor was the next best option.  Or so he says.

Put some dirty baby clothes on top of the dirty diaper, and when a completely exhausted mom does laundry, she’ll pick up everything and wash it all.  Even the dirty diaper.

My first week back at school has exhausted me….if you couldn’t tell.

Diaper Blowouts

These diaper blowouts are driving me insane!  They happen at least 5 times a week, and they ruin her clothes.  We heard that going up a size would help, and we thought she might be ready for a bigger size anyway, so we tried a size 2 (which starts at 12 pounds….she’s only 11.5 right now).  Well, they seemed fine for about 6 days, and then tonight the diaper totally failed.  Ahhh!  So frustrating.  We’ve tried different sizes, different brands, different ways of tightening them, and nothing seems to help.

The main problem, and what is probably ultimately leading up to these blowouts, is that she doesn’t seem to poop regularly throughout the day.  She saves them up for the evening–between 4 and 7 every night.  So when it comes, it’s full force.  We don’t think anything is wrong with her because she still has at least 4 bms a day.  It’s just that the evening ones are huge.  Blech.

Totally Toddler spray helps get some of the stains out, but it doesn’t get everything.  Oh well.  At least you don’t see the back side in pictures.  I just hate having stains on her clothes….especially if we have another girl someday.

Haha, sorry for the gross post.  This topic has been bothering me for a long time now.  I want to figure out how to make this stop.  Otherwise, we are in for a long, hard time until potty training.
